How to Use the Chipotle Nutrition Calculator
The tool opens on a burrito bowl already built the way most people order one: chicken, white rice, black beans, fresh tomato salsa, cheese and lettuce, 660 calories. You never start from a blank screen. Change one thing at a time and watch which change actually matters.
Choose the meal type
The row of tabs covers bowls, burritos, salads, tacos, quesadillas, both kids meals, chips and sides, and drinks. Each tab loads that item's real starting point, so a quesadilla arrives with its tortilla and cheese layer already counted.
Tap what you would order
Every ingredient card shows its own calories, protein, carbs and fat before you add it. Tap once to add, tap again to remove. A green tick means the item is in your build.
Read the totals
Ten nutrients update instantly, each with its share of a 2,000 calorie day. On a phone the running total sits in the bar at the bottom of the screen; tap Totals to open the full panel.
Keep the result
Share link copies a web address that rebuilds your exact order for anyone who opens it. Copy summary puts the whole thing on your clipboard as text. Print gives you a clean page with the numbers and no navigation.
Two proteins and double meat are counted the way Chipotle serves them
Ask for two proteins in one entree and the crew gives you half a scoop of each. The calculator does the same. Select chicken and steak together and it counts 90 calories of one plus 75 of the other, not two full portions. Most calculators get this wrong and hand you a number roughly 165 calories too high.
Double meat works the other way. Tick the Extra box on any protein and a second full portion joins the total along with its upcharge. Adding a second scoop of chicken to that standard bowl takes it from 660 to 840 calories and lifts protein from 50g to 82g, which is the cheapest protein on the menu in calorie terms.
Rice, beans and the light portion trick
White and brown rice both come to 210 calories per 4 oz scoop, so switching between them saves nothing. What changes is fiber and sodium: brown carries 2g of fiber against white's 1g, and 190mg of sodium against 350mg. Ask for light rice at the counter and you get about half a scoop, near 105 calories. The calculator counts a full scoop, so read its rice line as the ceiling and subtract in your head when you order light.
Beans are the best value on the line. A scoop of black beans is 130 calories for 8g of protein and 7g of fiber. Drop the rice, keep the beans, and a bowl loses 210 calories while holding on to the part that keeps you full.
Chips, drinks and sides use counters instead of switches
Nobody orders half a bag of chips, and plenty of people order two. Those groups use minus and plus buttons so you can put three bags and two drinks in the same total. It matters more than it sounds: a bag of chips is 540 calories, which is more than the rice, beans and salsa in the bowl above it combined.
Diet filters narrow the list to what you can actually eat
Six chips sit above the ingredients: vegetarian, vegan, keto, paleo, gluten free and dairy free. Turn one on and every ingredient that fails it disappears from the list, using Chipotle's own published tags rather than our opinion. Turn on vegan and the meat cards go, sofritas stays at 150 calories and 8g of protein. The totals panel then tells you which diets your finished build fits and names any allergen it contains, so a bowl that started gluten free flags the moment you add a tortilla on the side.
The price line is an estimate, and it is labelled as one
Alongside the nutrition you get a running cost built from the entree base price plus paid add-ons like guacamole at $2.95 and queso at $1.70. It comes from one sample US restaurant. Chipotle prices move by city, so treat the figure as a guide to what your changes cost rather than a receipt.
What Changes When You Can See the Numbers
Chipotle food is not unhealthy by default. The same counter produces a 520 calorie steak bowl and a 1485 calorie loaded burrito, and the difference is four or five decisions nobody explains at the till.
You find out which single change matters
People assume the protein decides everything. It barely moves: steak at 150 calories, chicken at 180, Pollo Asado at 180, carnitas at 210. The whole range is 60 calories. Meanwhile the flour tortilla adds 320 on its own, and the four creamy toppings together come to 570. Build it once in the calculator and the real levers become obvious in about ten seconds.
You see the six nutrients nobody else shows you
Chipotle's own calculator gives four numbers. This one gives ten, and the extra six are where the surprises live. Sodium is the clearest example: the standard chicken bowl above looks moderate at 660 calories, then turns out to carry 1610mg of sodium, 70% of a day, before you add chips or a second salsa. Fresh tomato salsa contributes 550mg of that for only 25 calories, and the honey vinaigrette adds 850mg more. Swap to tomatillo green chili salsa at 260mg and you cut hundreds of milligrams without losing anything you would notice.
Percentages give the numbers meaning
A total of 20.5g of fat means very little on its own. Shown as a share of a 2,000 calorie day it lands in context, and the bars turn yellow past 75% and red past 100%, so an order that quietly uses your whole sodium allowance says so in colour rather than in fine print. Protein works the same way in reverse: that bowl already delivers 100% of a day's protein, which is worth knowing before you decide it was not filling enough.
Diet and allergy checks happen in the same place as the counting
Most people managing gluten, dairy or a plant based diet end up with a nutrition site in one tab and an allergen chart in another. Here the filters and the totals sit in one tool, so you can build a vegan sofritas bowl and confirm the calories, the fiber and the allergens together. The allergen menu lists the same tags in full when you want the whole picture.
It works standing in the queue
The layout was built for a phone first. Ingredients are one per row with a large tap target, the running total stays pinned to the bottom of the screen as you scroll, and the whole page loads in well under a second because it is plain HTML with one small interactive piece. You can decide between guacamole at 230 calories and queso at 120 while the person in front of you is still choosing their beans.
The arithmetic is checked against Chipotle's own totals
Chipotle publishes finished figures for some items as well as for ingredients, which gives us a way to prove the maths. Before anything is published, the build adds up those combinations from our ingredient file and compares each one to the official number. Chips and guacamole has to land on 770 calories. If a check drifts, nothing ships. The about page sets out the sources and the process, and the nutrition facts chart shows every value the calculator draws from.

How to Eat Lighter at Chipotle Without Ordering a Sad Salad
The tortilla is the single biggest swing on the menu. A burrito starts at 320 calories and 50g of carbs before anything goes inside it, so the same fillings in a bowl save that much straight away. The next levers are the extras: guacamole adds 230 calories, queso blanco 120, sour cream 110 and the honey vinaigrette 220. Pick one of them, not all four.
Rice and beans are where the numbers surprise people. White and brown rice both land at 210 calories per 4 oz scoop, so brown rice is not a calorie saving, only a fiber and sodium one (190mg versus 350mg). Black and pinto beans are 130 calories each with 8g of protein and 7 to 8g of fiber. Salsas are almost free: fresh tomato salsa is 25 calories, green 15, red 30, and corn salsa 80.
A fully loaded steak burrito with guac, queso, sour cream and cheese reaches 1485 calories and 3210mg of sodium, more than a full day's sodium in one wrap. Build it in the calculator, then remove one item at a time and watch which change matters most.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Chipotle nutrition calculator work?
Pick a meal type, then tap the ingredients you would order at the counter. The totals panel adds up calories, fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, fiber, sugar and protein for every item, and shows each number as a percent of a 2,000 calorie day. Choosing two proteins counts a half portion of each, the same way Chipotle serves a half and half. Tap Extra on a protein to double it.
How accurate are the calorie numbers?
Every figure comes from Chipotle's published US nutrition data for standard serving sizes, for example 4 oz of chicken, 4 oz of rice and 1 oz of cheese. Chipotle states that portions vary from order to order, so treat totals as a close estimate rather than a lab result. Cholesterol is not published for a few new items such as Pollo Asado, so those rows show n/a and are not added to the cholesterol total.
Before every release the build adds up the combinations Chipotle publishes totals for, such as chips and guacamole at 770 calories, and stops if any of them drifts. The about page sets out the sources, the checks and the refresh cadence in full.
How many calories are in a typical Chipotle order?
Most orders land between 520 and 1485 calories, and the spread comes from four or five choices rather than the protein. A middle of the road bowl with white rice, black beans, fresh tomato salsa, cheese and lettuce sits at 660 calories with 50g protein. Wrapping the same fillings in a tortilla adds 320. Piling on guacamole, queso, sour cream and cheese together adds 570.
Each meal type has its own page with the exact numbers: bowls, burritos, salads, tacos and quesadillas.
What is the healthiest thing to order at Chipotle?
For the fewest calories with the most protein, start with a salad or bowl, choose steak (150 cal, 21g protein) or chicken (180 cal, 32g protein), add fajita veggies, fresh tomato salsa and lettuce, and skip the vinaigrette, sour cream and queso. A keto style steak bowl with salsa, cheese, guacamole and lettuce comes to 520 calories and 15g carbs.
Which Chipotle protein has the most protein?
Chicken leads the regular lineup with 32g of protein per 4 oz serving for 180 calories. Pollo Asado is close behind at 29g, barbacoa has 24g, carnitas 23g, steak 21g and sofritas 8g. The Side of Pollo Asado protein cup is the single highest protein item at 37g.
How many calories are in chips and guacamole at Chipotle?
Regular chips and guacamole come to 770 calories: 540 from the chips and 230 from the 4 oz guacamole. The large version with large guacamole is 1270 calories. Chips alone are 540 calories, and the new Chili Lime Chips are 550.
Can I see vegan, keto or gluten free options?
Yes. Use the diet chips above the ingredient list to show only vegetarian, vegan, keto, paleo, gluten free or dairy free items, based on Chipotle's own diet and allergen tags. The totals panel also confirms which diets your finished build fits and lists any allergen it contains. The full breakdown is on the Chipotle allergen menu page.
Does the calculator include the newest items like Pollo Asado and Chili Lime Chips?
Yes. Pollo Asado, Chili Lime Chips, Cilantro Lime Sauce and the Tractor Mango Lemonade are all included with their published nutrition. Limited time items that come and go, such as Carne Asada and Chicken al Pastor, are marked with a Limited time badge so you can still calculate them when they return.
Is this the official Chipotle nutrition calculator?
No. This is an independent tool built on Chipotle's published nutrition information. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Chipotle Mexican Grill. The official calculator lives at chipotle.com. We add features it does not have: full ten nutrient totals, percent daily values, diet filters, allergen flags, estimated prices, share links and a printable summary.
